How to Support TAG

TAG is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit with no paid retail staff — the gallery stays open on membership dues, class fees, volunteer hours, and gifts from people who believe downtown Tappahannock is better with a working art center in it. Here's where you fit in.

A membership dollar covers a lot, but it doesn't cover everything.

WAYS TO GIVE

Not every gift is money — time, materials, and word of mouth all keep the doors open too.

Shop the

Gallery

Buying a piece off the wall or from the retail shelf sends money directly to the member artist and to the guild.

Give

In-Kind

Frames, easels, studio supplies, printing, or professional services help as much as cash and often cost you less.

Spread the

Word

Follow TAG on social media, forward the newsletter, or just bring a friend by next time you're on Prince Street.

WHERE YOUR GIFT GOES

Every dollar has a job

TAG runs lean, with no paid retail staff — here's what contributions actually cover.

01

Rent & Utilities

Keeping the Prince Street storefront open, heated, and lit six days a week.

02

Free Programs

Materials and supplies for KidzArt at the farmers market and other free community events.

03

Instructor Stipends

Paying the local artists who lead TAG's classes, camps, and workshops.

04

Exhibits & Events

Hanging hardware, printing, receptions, &  the everyday cost of putting on a show.

Volunteer at TAG

TAG has no paid retail staff — every open hour depends on someone showing up to cover it.

ROLES THAT NEED FILLING

Pick the role that fits your schedule

No art background needed for most of these — just a few hours and a willingness to show up. Guild Artists also count volunteer shifts toward their membership requirement.

  • Gallery Sitter— staff the front desk during open hours, greet visitors, and handle sales

  • Event Crew— help with setup, take-down, and day-of logistics at Plein Air, Squares for the Cure, and receptions

  • Class Assistant— support instructors during workshops, camps, and KidzArt at the farmers market

  • Committee Volunteer— lend a hand with marketing, fundraising, or programming alongside the board

BUSINESS SPONSORSHIP

TAG's biggest events depend on outside support to run at all.

2026 Plein Air poster, registration open for Oct 21-24.

Put your name on the season's biggest draws

TAG's annual Plein Air weekend and the Squares for the Cure show and sale both bring visitors from well outside Essex County — and both run on sponsor support to cover prizes, printing, and logistics.

Sponsorship isn't limited to those two marquee events, either. Local businesses can back a single exhibit opening, an art class series, or the gallery's year-round programming as a whole — whichever fits your budget and how visible you'd like to be. Sponsorships can be paid in cash or fulfilled in-kind through goods, services, or printing donated toward the event.

  • Name and logo placement on event signage and materials

  • Recognition in TAG's newsletter and social media

  • A tax-deductible way to put your business in front of the crowd

  • Complimentary invitations to the sponsor preview or opening reception

  • Goodwill with a customer base that already shops and dines locally

Sponsorships can be arranged per event or across the full season — reach out and TAG's board will work out a level that fits.
